ABSTRACT

In recent years, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19, a large number of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors in adolescents have emerged, which has attracted wide attention from the society and become a serious public mental health problem. Repeated NSSI is also considered as an addictive behavior, which shares many similar neurobiological mechanisms with substance addiction, such as the dopamine reward system and the endogenous opioid system. This paper aims to review the domestic and international research progress on the characteristics of addiction in NSSI, including the general background, mechanism, assessment, and intervention.Copyright © 2022 Chinese Journal of Psychiatry.
